If you’re looking for a real challenge, something that tests your fitness, precision, mindset, and grit, HYROX is it. It’s not just another fitness trend. It’s a race, and we invite you to join the HYROX family. A growing global community of athletes pushing their limits, competing head-to-head on a standardised stage.
Together with Roar Active, RFX Athletic is one of the few facilities in Australia offering focused HYROX training, preparing you for the demands of a competition that combines functional fitness with fitness racing and endurance racing. Whether you’re looking to complete your first event or climb the global leaderboard, our programming is built to help you own the start line and crush the finish.
HYROX is a sport built on a consistent global format, so no matter where in the world you race, the challenge is the same. Every HYROX competition includes eight 1km runs, each followed by a functional workout station. The result? A fast, furious race that’s part endurance, part strength, and 100% physical.
This is fitness with a stopwatch, which involves risks. A competition built on preparation, not luck. Athletes race in age groups or pro divisions, and everyone has the same goal: cross the finish line with nothing left in the tank.
Each HYROX event follows the same structure worldwide, across different countries. It’s this consistency that makes it such a standout in the world of functional fitness. Alternating between a 1km run and a functional exercise repeated 8 times, you may find yourself doing activities like:
Whether it’s your first time or your tenth, the format never changes, but your performance will. That’s where training comes in.
Training for HYROX isn’t about doing random workouts and hoping for the best. It’s about understanding the format, building targeted endurance, and sharpening your ability to recover and perform under load through functional exercises. That’s what we do at RFX Athletic.
We break the race down into key segments: running form and pacing, load-based movements like the sled push and pull, technical elements like burpee broad jumps, and high-rep endurance tests like wall balls. Then we train those segments systematically, focusing on technique, load progression, and repeatability under fatigue.
You’ll work on:
We run full simulated race sessions for those prepping for a HYROX event, along with skill-focused classes and accessory sessions for athletes building toward the pro division. Whether you’re entering solo, as part of a doubles team, or shooting for an elite spot in the global series, our job is to help you train with purpose, handle data processing, and race with confidence.
HYROX is unlike any other event on the fitness calendar. It’s not CrossFit, not an obstacle course, not a half-marathon. It’s a sport in its own right, designed to be accessible but never easy. You don’t need to be an elite athlete to start, but you do need discipline, consistency, and a willingness to train hard.
What makes it different is the combination of pace, precision, and volume. You’re moving fast, but everything still has to be executed well. A wall ball thrown just short of the target. A missed length in your burpee broad jumps. An incorrect sled load. These are the small details that cost you minutes and mean the difference between leaderboard positions, which we track for monitoring purposes. It’s a sport with standards. And that’s what makes it great.
HYROX involves load. Volume. Impact. Which means it also involves risks. That’s why at RFX Athletic, we don’t just throw you in. We monitor the form. We coach recovery. We scale loads where necessary. And we use structured programming to ensure that your first (or next) HYROX event doesn’t just happen, but happens well.
We also respect that many athletes train under medical guidance, or may be returning from injury. Our coaches are trained to recognise red flags and manage individual progressions, while still keeping sessions competitive and challenging.
We’ve built a progressive entry path, from foundational functional training to race-specific prep. We’ll walk you through the movement standards, simulate segments, and guide you through pacing strategies to help you finish strong.
If you’ve signed up for an event and want help taking your training to the next level, we offer tailored race prep sessions that include data processing. You’ll work directly with an RFX Athletic coach to review your current training, test your station times, and refine your pacing for each leg of the race. You’ll also get access to our training logs, tracking sheets, and feedback tools so you can measure your progress week to week.
To support your prep, we integrate media capture and data analysis tools to help monitor your performance over time. You’ll also be able to opt in to feedback sessions and movement screenings if you want a deeper dive into your programming. This is optional, but for athletes chasing personal bests or competitive rankings on the global leaderboard, it’s a proven edge.
If you’re training for your first race, trying to break into the pro division, or just want to see where you stack up in terms of fitness level, this is where to start, improving your training to the next level. We offer casual drop-ins, membership options, and coaching packages tailored to HYROX-specific training. If you’re not sure where to begin, get in touch. We’ll help you map out a plan and get you ready for race day.
